How it works

Certoflow calculates the marks ratio:

Percentage = (marks obtained ÷ total marks) × 100

Letter grades derive from the percentage using Certoflow's shared US scale (A+ at 97%, A at 93%, B+ at 87%, and so on down to F below 60%). The same thresholds appear in the Grading Scale Chart and other education tools.

All computation runs client-side in JavaScript. Invalid totals (zero or negative) return 0% to prevent division errors.

Common mistakes

Swapping obtained and total. Entering 500 in marks obtained and 425 in total marks produces a nonsense percentage above 100%. Obtained should always be less than or equal to total.

Using the wrong denominator. If the exam was out of 80 but the report template says 100, verify the actual total before converting.

Rounding too early. Calculate the full ratio first. Rounding obtained marks before division can shift the final percentage by a tenth of a point near grade boundaries.

Can I use decimal marks?

Yes. Partial credit often produces values like 37.5 obtained out of 50 total.

How is this different from the test score calculator?
