How it works

Metric path: BMI = weightKg / (heightM²) where heightM = heightCm / 100.

Imperial path: convert pounds to kilograms (0.45359237 kg per lb), convert feet and inches to centimeters via total inches × 2.54, then apply the same formula.

Category labels follow common public-health screening bands. Athletes with high muscle mass, elderly individuals, and children may interpret BMI differently — the tool displays a disclaimer that BMI is screening, not diagnosis.
